BEEN OVER, AND OVER THIS BEFORE (2019) discarded mattress, bed frame, light.
A discarded mattress has been upholstered and reworked to create a hanging form that suggests the immobility caused by traumatic memory and invasive thought. Within the work, pre existing stains have been masked by multiple layers of thick white acrylic paint, implying a ‘hidden’ history that has been revisited and covered many times. Using the high ceiling of the gallery space, the work is hung to encourage a sense of isolation while prompting an intimate relationship with the viewer.
